Tom and JB went up to Boston this weekend for JB’s graduation for her Master’s degree! As a celebratory dinner they ate at Post 390 located in the Back Bay section of Boston.
JB ordered from the raw bar for her appetizer (shared with the table) a mix of the four types of oysters offered 1, Pekin Duck Breast with Smoked Duck Leg Andouille and an Ice Cream Sundae for dessert.
Tom ordered Skillet-Fried Crab Cake and Brandt Farm Sirloin Steak.
This meal was incredibly special to me as It allowed me to celebrate with Tom, my family and some close family friends, so despite the long wait time for drinks and food I had a great meal. Post 390 is a large restaurant spread over two floors with open kitchens on the second floor that lead to the energy and noise that creates a fun atmosphere. The service was slow for our party but this was only a mild negative and I’d recommend the restaurant despite this. The food was delicious, I tried three different entrees on the table and would have been happy with any as my meal because they all were delicious. I feel a bit like I’m gushing but the overall day/night for me was just that good.
First, let me say how proud I am of Jill for graduating with her Master’s degree. She works her butt of more than anyone, and she deserved a nice dinner… And she got one! I started with the crab cake, which was excellent2. The crab cake was not too heavy, served hot, and just the right blend of spices and crab.
I was struggling to decide between the steak and the duck, and I wound up going with the steak. I was not disappointed! I ordered the steak “medium” and it was cooked to perfection: just the right amount of searing on the outside, and bloody enough on the inside. This is a very fancy restaurant, but I was glad to see the crunchy onions on the top to give it that “home cookin'” type of feel.
I don’t like to be rushed through my meal by the server, but as Jill mentioned the waiter did disappear very frequently for long stretches. But it was a small blip on an otherwise wonderful evening.

- If Post 390 was located in Mystic, I would rank it just below Abbott’s in the Mystic Date Night Crab Cake Power Rankings. However, since it Post 390 is located in Boston, it is disqualified. Sorry! ↩
